Job Description

**About the Role**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our team at ZipRecruiter. As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of complex products, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Authority: Act as a technical authority and mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  2. CAD Design: Produce high-quality 3D and 2D CAD designs of parts and assemblies using Catia V5, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  3. Reporting and Analysis: Generate reports using FEA, FMEA, design calculations, and part certification, providing insights and recommendations to improve product performance.
  4. Manufacturing Support: Support the manufacture of wind tunnel test subject components, sub-assemblies, and associated rigs, ensuring that products meet quality and performance standards.
  5. Design for Manufacture: Design products with manufacturability in mind, considering factors such as 5-axis machining, instrumentation, and sensor requirements.
  6. Project Management: Contribute to and lead project launch, design review, and project wash-up meetings, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives, driving process improvements and cost reductions.
  8. Quality and Safety: Ensure that all products meet company quality standards and health and safety procedures, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  9. Communication: Regularly communicate with team members, suppliers, customers, and other departments, providing updates and insights to ensure seamless collaboration.

Requirements:

  1. Technical Knowledge: Demonstrable knowledge of GD&T, FEA, DFMEA, and stress calculations, with experience in keeping projects within budget and to project schedule.
  2. CAD Proficiency: Highly proficient in CAD software, as well as Microsoft Office software.
  3. Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to support and develop less experienced engineers, and support supervisors and line management.
  4. Problem-Solving: Flexible to changing workloads, a problem solver able to develop/implement workaround solutions.
  5. Continuous Learning: Committed to self-improvement and receptive to new ideas and ways of working.
  6. Aerospace Experience: Experience in aerospace or aerodynamic application, with a background in R&D/testing.
  7. Project Management Tools: Experience of project management tools and methodologies, including 6 Sigma, 5S, and LEAN manufacturing principles.
  8. MRP Systems: Familiarity with MRP systems, and high-speed aerodynamics testing.
  9. Security Clearance: Must satisfy security clearance requirements, including the last 5 years continual UK residency.
