Canonical's Kernel Team: Expanding Support for System On Chip Platforms

We are seeking talented engineers to join our Kernel Team at Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu Linux. Our team is responsible for expanding support for System On Chip (SoC) platforms, and we are looking for passionate engineers with a strong background in software development at the hardware level to work on optimising performance for a variety of silicon manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a global team of kernel engineers to develop and maintain Ubuntu Linux kernels.
  • Integrate platform support for silicon vendors, ensuring seamless integration with our kernel.
  • Diagnose and resolve kernel issues, providing high-quality solutions to our users.
  • Deliver silicon-optimised Ubuntu Linux kernels, meeting the needs of our customers.
  • Improve tooling and automation to streamline our kernel development process.
  • Apply kernel patches and maximise performance, ensuring our kernel remains competitive.

Requirements:

  • Strong C programming skills, with experience in device drivers and system engineering.
  • Proficiency with git and operating system kernel fundamentals, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Experience with performance optimisation, including knowledge of SoC families and Linux kernel debugging.

Additional Skills:

  • Python and Bash scripting, with experience in automating kernel development tasks.
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel development tools and methodologies.
