About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Ophthalmic Nursing Specialist to join our dedicated team at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. In this crucial role, you will provide exceptional patient care, contribute to the smooth running of our Ophthalmology Outpatient Department (OPD), and play a vital part in delivering high-quality ophthalmic services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients attending the Ophthalmology OPD, including pre-operative assessments, post-operative monitoring, and wound care.
  • Assist with a range of ophthalmic procedures, such as injections, laser treatments, and diagnostic tests, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, adhering to strict clinical governance guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Contribute to a safe and efficient working environment by ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated. Report any issues promptly to the relevant teams.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control protocols.

Knowledge, Training, and Education

  • Registered nurse with current NMC registration, maintaining this in accordance with professional requirements.
  • Professionally responsible for maintaining skills appropriate for the clinical area through up-to-date mandatory training and professional qualifications.
  • Assessor/mentoring qualification.
  • Demonstrate an effective teaching style.
  • Management experience.
  • Maintain and develop specialist knowledge in ophthalmic nursing, underpinned by sound theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Proficient and competent in drug administration, BLS, emergency procedures, invasive procedures, ECG acquisition, and analysis of blood results.
