The selected candidate will become a vital member of a multi-disciplinary team focused on providing a new Gender Service for Children and Young People.
This position is ideal for a psychiatrist with a deep understanding of child development, neurodiversity, and adolescent mental health, who values reflective practice and thrives in a collaborative team environment. The consultant will play a key role in delivering exceptional clinical services while also contributing to the leadership and strategic growth of the program.
The responsibilities of this role will encompass (but are not limited to) the following:
- Assessing and prioritizing referrals within a multi-professional framework.
- Providing local consultation and guidance prior to referrals when necessary.
- Conducting joint evaluations with senior psychological professionals and managing cases of children and adolescents experiencing gender incongruence.
- Performing comprehensive assessments that align with established protocols, utilizing advanced clinical expertise.
- Assisting in the formulation of care plans, applying clinical judgment regarding support priorities and timelines.
- Collaborating with other healthcare providers and social care teams to ensure appropriate patient care.
- Offering consultation and support to the multidisciplinary team, including complex case management and diagnostic challenges.
- Conducting holistic consultations tailored to the developmental stage and presentation of children and adolescents, including social history, educational needs, and mental health considerations.
- Acting as a key contributor to the multidisciplinary team, guiding personalized care for each young person and advocating for their mental health needs.
- Effectively communicating intricate information to a specialized caseload of young individuals and their families, as well as relevant social care entities.
