What you'll do

We’re embarking on a new and exciting phase of the bank’s transformation agenda, and data architecture operation plays a crucial role in achieving our mission to simplify, reduce risk and enable customer engagement and personalisation. Supporting the development of architectures for data intensive solutions and governing the data architecture of the bank is critical to driving simplification, improving data efficiency, and ensuring data risk stays within appetite.

As an Architect Lead, you’ll be defining and communicating the current, resultant and target state of data intensive solutions and data architecture governance. You’ll be making sure that the data architecture governance across the bank’s franchises and functions’ data architecture links to, and is informed by our overall strategy and architecture, and produces the architecture outcomes. We’ll look to you strongly influence the development of business strategies within your function and across the bank, identifying transformational opportunities for our businesses and technology areas associated with both new and existing technologies.

In addition, you’ll manage and mentor a team of specialist and senior data architects dedicated to supporting solution architecture for data intensive solutions and exercising data architecture governance of the bank fostering a collaborative, high performance culture that encourages innovation. You’ll also drive adoption, enforcement and governance of all data architecture artefacts, controls, target architecture, patterns and standards across the bank and act as the expert in data architecture governance for the bank.

As well as this, you’ll be:

  • Translating architecture roadmaps and governance targets into packages of work that allow frequent incremental delivery of value to be included in product backlog
  • Defining, creating, maintaining, enforcing and governing data architecture policies and standards, including the governance of data flows and data’s lifecycle management, and the reviews and approvals of data architecture designs ensuring alignment to bank wide architecture and data management policies and governance
  • Working closely with data owners and, business and technology leaders across the three lines of defence to ensure alignment to data architecture governance strategy and targets
  • Leading review, monitoring and reporting of data architecture governance effectiveness
  • Seeking out and utilising continuous feedback, fostering adaptive design and engineering practices to drive the collaboration of programmes and teams around a common technical vision
  • Leading, influencing and governing data architecture governance and data solution advisory ensuring these meet the bank’s business and data strategy demand
  • Identifying gaps in data architecture culture and skills across your areas of management and influencing supporting plans to resolve, providing mentorship where necessary

The skills you'll need

We’re looking for someone with a background in defining architectures and roadmaps for complex enterprises and a background that combines architecture and project or programme governance. To thrive in this role, you’ll need expert knowledge and experience of architecture governance, and in-depth knowledge of enterprise data architecture and solution data architecture with good knowledge of the remaining architecture and data management disciplines. You’ll also have extensive enterprise data architecture and data architecture governance experience in the financial industry architecture.

You’ll be a thought leader of data architecture governance and solutions for data intensive programmes for the bank, influencing business and technology strategies across the franchises and functions. You’ll have excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to colleagues, up to senior leadership level, along with a good understanding of Agile methodologies with experience of working in an Agile team.

You’ll also demonstrate:

  • Experience as an enterprise architect with focus on architecture governance
  • Experience in large enterprise or highly data intensive environments
  • Experience of developing, syndicating and communicating architecture designs, reviews and proposals for action
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of data, architecture and governance frameworks such as DAMA, DCAM, TOGAF and ARCHIMATE
  • Experience and knowledge of data related regulations such as GDPR, CCPA,PCI DSS, BCBS 239 and similar
  • Strong knowledge of wider data and architecture topics such business architecture, data governance, data quality management, master data management and data controls management
  • Architecture knowledge of Tableau, AWS data services stack, Informatica and at least one supplier in data management, graph DBs, MDM and NoSQL Databases
  • Critical thinking skills, enabling you to cut through complexity, and make sound decisions and recommendations that are carefully balanced against risk
