Job title: Principal Engineer – Mechanical Engineering

Salary: Circa £55,000

What you’ll be doing:

  • Taking ownership of specific Mechanical design issues and managing Integrated Combat Systems, Platform (In build & in service) stakeholders and external partners
  • Managing internal department stakeholder’s dependent on design activity
  • Review of Integrated combat design’s and their platform interfaces providing Mechanical design feedback (Structural, Thermal & Hydraulic) in the Naval/Marine domain
  • Production of CS Mechanical design interface information, e.g. Interface and Installation Guidance Information
  • Performing Engineering calculations (Structural, Thermal & Hydraulic, Pneumatic) and generating associated test specifications and procedures to support design-proving and qualification activities
  • Producing Engineering Drawings in FORAN/CADS5/Viso to BS 8888

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Hydraulic / Pneumatic Systems Engineering experience
  • Degree or HND qualified with experience
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership

Desirable:

  • Def Stan 08-107 General Requirements for the design of Electro technical and Naval Weapon Equipment.
  • Environmental Qualification Standards Def Stan 08 – 123 & Def Stan 00-35.
  • Submarine Materials Toxicity standard/database BR1326A (or surface ship equivalent)

The Platform Physical Design Team:

Part of the specialist engineering services, the Platform Physical Design and Installation Service’s provides a key role in physically incorporating Integrated Combat System’s Equipment onto our Royal Navy Submarine Fleet. This is a critical role in the delivery of the product to the customer and will allow you to liaise with high level stakeholders and develop a lasting career with BAE Systems.
