Mechanical Engineer

Pontyclun, Wales

£30k-35K

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer excited by the idea of designing and engineering our manufacturing and production processes and facilities?

Do you have a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from a top rated university?

If you answered yes to either, then read on…

About us

We combined an Imperial College London project with a partnership from one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies, Concrete Canvas, to develop manufacturing technology for prefabricating flat-packed concrete structures. Our products are easy to transport, install, and maintain, yet are priced below traditional concrete alternatives.

We utilise an innovative concrete fabric material, developed by our partner Concrete Canvas, which has been under continuous development for nearly 20 years. We have exclusive access to this material and their development team, giving us the resources to drive innovation in our products and industry.

In addition, we are developing a new product range using a newer version of the material from Concrete Canvas called CCX, which will allow us to be even more cost-effective. We are also supplying instant slabs for a variety of uses and continuing to develop new features.

Traditional concrete infrastructure solutions were bulky and labour-intensive, requiring local or on-site production. Our new approach opens up global markets ripe for disruption, offering significant commercial opportunities alongside a positive social impact.

We are just beginning our journey to disrupt a fragmented industry and improve lives worldwide—do you want to be part of it?

Tasks

Hands-On Production: Work directly in our production facility, fulfilling orders from our distribution partners.

Product Expertise: Quickly gain in-depth knowledge of our product range and production techniques. Once familiar with the process, focus on automating and reducing manual labour wherever possible.

Product Design Involvement: Participate in designing new products, including expanding tank sizes within our existing range and developing new accessories for various uses, such as fire control and agriculture.

SolidWorks Design: Use SolidWorks to design new products and machinery for the production process, review past designs, and optimise them as needed.

Supplier Liaison: Work with third-party suppliers to identify suitable components and ensure robust procurement processes.

Proof of Concepts: Build Proof of Concepts to test new ideas related to products or production processes.

Requirements

Educational Background: This role is ideal for a Mechanical Engineering graduate from a top engineering university or an experienced engineer.

University Experience: Share your university experience, including both academic and extracurricular activities such as sports or clubs.

Practical Experience: This is a hands-on role where you will quickly take on responsibilities within our production process. Prior practical experience, whether from past positions, a year in industry, extracurricular activities, or personal projects, is essential. You must be comfortable with hands-on work.

CAD Skills: Proficiency in SolidWorks is necessary. While you don’t need to be an expert, you should be comfortable creating CAD drawings when required. A portfolio of your design work will be requested.

Material Knowledge: While expertise in our materials isn’t required, you must understand the challenges of working with innovative composite materials.

Benefits
  • Responsibility & Influence: Quickly take on significant responsibility for production and influence both product and production process designs.
  • Early Team Member: As an early hire, you will have considerable influence over the future direction and operation of the team.
  • Career Development: We support your career development and skill acquisition.
  • Meaningful Work:
  • Work on products with significant commercial potential while contributing to positive global impact, such as improving access to water, enhancing food production capabilities, and mitigating climate change effects.
