We have exciting new opportunities for a Health and Safety Risk Adviser to join our Health and Safety Risk Management Team.
**Our Team**
The HandS Traded Service deliver high quality health and safety services to schools covering areas from Newcastle to Loughborough. As well as delivering to schools in the whole of North Yorkshire and City of York, we have customers in Newcastle, Sunderland, Hartlepool, Keighley, Bradford, Leeds, Pontefract, Wakefield, Doncaster, Derby and Loughborough. We are committed to delivering excellent services to our clients so we challenge ourselves and our team to look at ways to continually improve. This requires our team members to think innovatively and be supportive of colleagues which on occasion can be in challenging situations.
**The role**
As our Health & Safety Risk Adviser, you will advise on statutory requirements for health and safety risk management for low to medium risk and assist the Directorate (and any other customers of the Health and Safety Risk Management Service) to meet these requirements.
You will also be responsible for:
- Managing your own workload;
- Building long term relationships with your clients;
- Providing specialist advice to managers, schools and other commercial clients as appropriate on health and safety matters and good practice, referring to and providing interpretations of, legislation, national guidelines and Council policy and procedure as required;
- Delivering training sessions in twilight sessions;
- Using professional authority, judgement and responsibility to terminate unsafe working practices and situations setting out criteria and necessary actions before work can safely resume;
- On occasion, use analysis of audits, inspections, accident reports etc. to develop and implement new systems of work and safe working practices where existing methodologies are unsafe and inefficient.
- Undertaking audits reporting on findings and making recommendations based on the same.
- Participating in Directorate/School/Organisation Safety committees acting as a resource of expertise and guidance.

To be successful you must be a good communicator, both written and verbal, have the ability to assimilate new initiatives, technology and software and interpret information, have effective influencing and negotiating skills and have the ability to problem solve, find pragmatic solutions in professionally challenging situations, demonstrate good interpersonal skills and be able to work to deadlines and performance indicators.
