Overview

ESTEEM works _with_ young adults aged 14 - 26 to build lasting self-esteem and stronger communities through group activities and 1-2-1 support.

ESTEEM creates spaces where everyone matters.

ESTEEM works with 200 young adults annually across all of Sussex who face barriers to achieving their life goals. We have a base in Shoreham and offer a variety of different opportunities, including social drop-in sessions, mentoring, wellbeing sessions, volunteering and counselling. We have a dedicated staff team with various backgrounds and a commitment to championing the views of young adults throughout the organisation.

Due to our success, we have an exciting opportunity for a youth worker to join our team. ESTEEM has experienced significant growth over the past five years. This role builds on previous work completed by our former Mentoring and Vocational Youth Work Coordinator to ensure that young adults are supported with their vocational and skills development and engagement within the organisation.

This role will involve 1:1 meetings using tools to identify key support areas and offering encouragement to access and/or maintain young adults’ involvement with skills development, work experience, and participation programs inside and outside of the organisation.

In particular, you will support “The ESTEEM team”, a participatory group of young adults who meet twice weekly to help run the organisation. The ESTEEM team’s activities are decided by young adults in the group. Regular activities include, making and contributing to important organisational decisions, taking on tasks to keep the building operating, and creating and delivering their own projects, such as the recent inter-generational sessions.

ESTEEM offers a holistic approach to enabling young adults to make positive life choices. We recognise that they often experience complex and multiple issues. Young adults tell us that they are looking for someone in this role who will give them the time and space they need to thrive, understanding them as individuals.

This role is vital in providing wrap-around support, connecting young adults to other ESTEEM opportunities, such as mentoring, well-being, and social activities. Importantly the role will include building relationships with other organisations to connect young adults to relevant external opportunities, including work experience opportunities.

Alongside regular group meetings and individual support, you will facilitate a schedule of workshops throughout the year aiming to support work and employability skills alongside hands-on work-based skills training and visits.

Your regular tasks and responsibilities will include

Providing 1:1 Vocational and Progression Support:

- Conduct 1:1 vocational-focused sessions with young adults as one-off check-ins and short-term ongoing sessions.
- Be available for occasional 1:1 general support sessions for young adults in person and online.

Facilitate and organise group workshops and training sessions.
- Organise and facilitate relevant and regular training and learning workshops, linking with external facilitators and partnership organisations.
- Recruit young adults for workshops, including reaching out to the local community and ESTEEM members and sharing opportunities with local organisations.
- Where possible, support young adults in leading and co-delivering workshops, sharing their expertise with others.

Engage young adults through group work
- Facilitate weekly group work sessions that meet the group's needs and are engaging and participatory.
- Involve young adults in planning, idea generation, and implementation.

Collaborate for Vocational Opportunities:

- Partner with other organisations and businesses to expand vocational opportunities for young adults, including supported work experience and training.

Maintain Documentation, Budgets and Records:

- Record attendee information and ensure completion of relevant documentation, including impact measurement and risk assessments.
- Manage and maintain a budget for activities

Ensure Cohesive Offerings and Project Development:

- Coordinate with other Youth Workers and the Program Manager within ESTEEM to provide a cohesive array of opportunities for young adults within the organisation.
- Ensure activities remain relevant and accessible for the young adults attending and the local community.

Safeguarding and Support Referrals:

- Safeguard young people and report any concer
