Nursing Assistants Band 2/3
People become Nursing Assistants at our hospitals for lots of very good reasons. The satisfaction of caring for patients is one of them. Starting a rewarding NHS career is another.
Join us and help our dedicated teams provide compassionate care to people when they need it the most.
At Wythenshawe and Trafford hospitals, we’re looking for people who really want to care for others. You may have already had some caring experience gained in a healthcare or social care setting, or you might be a care giver or guardian outside of work. You might have previous experience of working with people in a different setting, like hospitality, retail, or other service industry. These are all relevant experiences for the role of a Nursing Assistant. If you’ve got the personal skills, resilience, and work ethic we’re looking for, that’s where it starts.
If you’ve already got qualifications like an NVQ or Level 2 Apprenticeship in healthcare, that’s great. But don’t worry if you don’t - our Clinical Support Worker Development Programme will support you to gain all the skills and knowledge you need. The other great news is the completion of this Programme will progress you into a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role.
With the NHS you’ll have access to some of the best benefits you’ll find anywhere, and you’ll finish every shift knowing you have made for the people you have cared for.
Within the Wythenshawe and Trafford hospitals, roles are vital and varied. You might work with patients who have a physical disability, have dementia or who suffer from anxiety, you might work with someone who has come into our hospital through an accident or emergency or from a planned procedure. Whatever reason a loved one is in hospital, it takes its toll on their family too. You’ll treat every person you come across with dignity, respect, kindness, and patience.
Some of the specific responsibilities of the role will include:
Personal care such as washing, dressing and supporting patients toileting needs
Helping patients eat and drink
Helping patients to move around
Monitoring conditions of patients through temperature, pulse and weight checks
Making patients and their relatives feel welcome, safe, and supported.
Communicating with and co-ordinating patients, relatives, and healthcare practitioners.
Helping patients, carers and relatives take an active role in their care.
Unfortunately, these roles are not eligible for sponsorship under current Home Office regulations.
The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust brings together 10 hospitals and community services from across Manchester, Trafford and beyond. We are one of England’s largest NHS Trusts, around 1 million patients relying on our services every year. With a 28,000+ strong workforce, we’re proud to say we work together to provide the highest standards of care.
Wythenshawe hospital is one of our busy acute hospitals, providing vital front line care as well as nationally and internationally renowned specialist services and Trafford hospital, the birth place of the NHS is a centre of outstanding inpatient and outpatient services.
At both of these sites you will work side-by-side with a diverse range of colleagues, help people from all walks of life, and learn every single day.
We want you to feel you can bring your whole self to this role. We take pride in creating the most caring environment for colleagues as well as our patients. Here, you’ll know that your health, wellbeing, and safety matter too, and that you have a voice in shaping the future of our Trust.
We can offer you support throughout your career with us. If you want to train to be a Nurse or Midwife in the future, and develop through the Bands, we’ll support you to achieve your goals.
We’re looking forward to hearing from you
At the Wythenshawe and Trafford hospitals, our Nursing Assistants take great pride in the essential work we do. That’s because we’re not just helping patients, we’re going the extra mile for them - day in, day out.
