**About us**

Ochil Tower School is a thriving educational and residential community, where 27 children and young people, aged 8-21, with special and complex additional support needs live, learn and grow together.

The aim is always to create a beautiful and calm experience. Ochil Tower School is set in seven acres of stunning Perthshire countryside. This enables its children and young adults to feel more relaxed and better able to forge relationships with peers and staff. They are then more able to build self-esteem, confidence, and their capacity for resilience.

The School provides excellent care and education and is not short on ambition. In October 2018, it opened a new Life Skills Centre. This facility is for young adults aged 18 - 21 and is designed to help them so that they are better prepared for the challenges of living an independent adult life by developing their skills in learning, life, and work. OTS has also been focussed on extending the residential provision to 52 weeks. The Board of Trustees have a commitment to further enhancing and developing the opportunities for the young people, the residential houses, and their plans to build new educational facilities for the school.

We are seeking a Night Shift Care Worker who will provide care and education to young people or young adults either with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties or with people with learning disabilities

**Requirements**:

- Experience working with children or young adults either with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties or with people with learning disabilities/ADHD/autism (either as paid employment/voluntary/personal life)
- Remain awake and attentive throughout the whole of your shift.
- Provide a safe, nurturing environment ensuring the best possible care and support to our young people in conjunction with the principles of safeguarding and child protection.
- Provide care through the night in accordance with the young people's individual care plans.
- Provide an accurate and clearly written report for each young person at the morning handover, alerting the day staff to any changes or concerns.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all living in the household, in conjunction with the House Coordinator.
- Ensure all aspects of care and support provided complies with Health & Social Care Standards and the policies and procedures agreed by Ochil Tower School, that reflect best professional practice.
- To provide personal care in a sensitive manner, upholding the dignity of young people at all times.
- Act in accordance with Scottish Social Services Code of Practice for Social Service Workers and Employers.
- Contribute to the effective running of the house by carrying out agreed tasks such as laundry and cleaning.
- Contribute to the formulation of young people’s care plans.
- Maintain the confidentiality of information relating to young people, co-workers and staff and to comply with the rights of our young people at all times.
- Committed to establishing a relationship with the pupils whereby you can inspire the pupils’ trust and respect in you, thus creating the foundation to manage any challenging behaviour.
- Undertake training and vocational courses as required.
- Meet with the House Manager on an individual basis to review progress with tasks and training as well as any other professional needs indicated in the policies and procedures for support and supervision.

- Must live in a commuting distance from Ochil Tower School
- Must have own mode of transport

**Desirable**
- Care qualification at SVQ 2 or above
- First Aid Certificate
- Experience working waking night shifts in a similar environment.
- Experience of working in residential child care or with young people with additional support needs.
- Highly recommended that applicants have a driving licence and access to a personal vehicle. This is due to the fact that the business needs may require you to work during unsociable hours and not being supported by public transport.
