Specialist Orthoptist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Specialist Orthoptist to join our dedicated team of 3 Orthoptists, 4 Optometrists, 4 Ophthalmic Technicians and 6 Consultant Ophthalmologists including a Paediatric Ophthalmologist with an interest in Ocular Motility Disorders.

Based within the Royal Glamorgan Hospital at Llantrisant, the post holder will experience a varied & complex caseload including referrals from Neurology, Endocrinology and Oral Surgery. Consultant led Squint and Paediatric Ophthalmology Clinics with further Orthoptic sessions based at Prince Charles Hospital at Merthyr Tydfil, and our community Hospitals.

There is a strong emphasis on Orthoptic led shared care for paediatric Orthoptic cases. Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is located in the South Wales Valleys with easy access to the busy metropolitan city of Cardiff, the beautiful South Wales Coast and the Brecon Beacons.

Working alongside Orthoptic, Optometry and medical colleagues the post holder will be involved with routine and complex paediatric and adult orthoptic cases, with some occasional single-handed working. The department receives referrals from all medical disciplines including neurology, endocrinology, maxillofacial services and paediatrics.

We offer pure orthoptic clinics but also work very closely with our Optometric and Medical Colleagues with a strong emphasis on Orthoptic & Optometry shared care.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
