**Job summary**
We’re seeking an enthusiastic **DevOps Engineer** to join our technology division here at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO).
This is a really exciting career opportunity to assist with the implementation and operation of the underlying DevOps practices, tools and systems, ensuring continuous service improvement and supporting product/service delivery through development and intoLive.
The team consists of DevOps engineers from both an Operations and a Software Engineering background, with skills across wide ranging technologies such as **Cloud technologies, primarily Azure, programming/scripting languages and CI/CD**.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with **opportunities to expand skills and knowledge both through formal training and pairing and mobbing with the team**.
You will provide support and guidance for Delivery teams on processes and best practices as well as researching new technologies to enable Delivery teams to be more effective.

**Job description**
You will provide support to delivery teams and help solve complex problems.
You will need to ensure all activities carried out are auditable and documented in accordance with required standards, methods, and procedures.
As our DevOps Engineer you will:

- Implement practices, processes and technology that drive efficiencies between development and operations Technology teams
- Take an active role in development and operations events such as daily scrums, sprint planning, refinement etc.
- Find ways to improve system robustness, resilience, stability and instrumentation
- Pro-actively find ways to increase the pace of delivery teams by improving processes
- Contribute to the community, promoting knowledge sharing and adoption of good practice

**Person specification**
As our DevOps engineer you will
- Have an understanding of using DevOps Capabilities and practices across an Enterprise, including CI/CD and Agile methodologies
- Be able to analyse complex business requirements, propose possible solutions and make recommendations.
- A good understanding of the benefits of working with Cloud technologies, Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
- Be keen to expand your skills and knowledge working towards a specialism which you can use to drive capability in the UKHO.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, always acting with professionalism
- The ability to understand and analyse complex business requirements.
- The ability to make sound decisions when working under pressure
- Able to manage your own workload and time efficiently.

As a bonus you would also have the following (but this is not essential)
- An awareness of Infrastructure as Code e.g. Terraform
- An Awareness of Azure DevOps
- Cloud foundation certification (Azure, AWS or GCP)

**SC - non reserved**
This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post and although open to UK, British Commonwealth and European Economic Area nationals, successful applicants will require a security clearance (SC) and therefore need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 12consecutive months within the last 5 years.
