Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

The Seeley Library is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and engaging Deputy Librarian (HSPS Coordinator). This post is ideal for anyone who enjoys supporting students throughout their academic journey and engaging with a vibrant academic community. It provides an opportunity to work as part of a team to develop collections and services at a busy faculty library.

The Seeley is a hub library that supports five disciplines within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Politics & International Studies, Sociology, Land Economy and Latin American Studies). We are a dedicated team of nine library professionals who work together to provide training and access to collections. The Deputy Librarian (HSPS Coordinator) reports to the Seeley's Librarian and works alongside the Seeley team in order to ensure the library meets the needs of the communities we serve.

This role provides an opportunity to develop and use teaching skills in order to deliver training to members of the University. You will become aware of the needs of our users and support them through developing their academic skills. This includes running group sessions and meeting with students for one-to-one support. You will also use your strong communication skills to engage with users of the library in a variety of ways, including managing our web presence and social media platforms. This post also holds responsibility for conducting research in order to shape future library services.

In your capacity as a Deputy Librarian you will deputise for the Seeley's Librarian and may be called upon to help manage the day-to-day operations in the library. This includes supervisory duties, setting tasks for members of the Seeley's team and monitoring workloads. You will also complete financial duties, such as working to a budget and managing a credit card. You will collaborate with colleagues to develop these skills and training will be available to support you.

This post also coordinates the library services aimed at the Faculty of Human, Social and Political Sciences (HSPS). Your attendance in relevant meetings and engagement with the HSPS Faculty will give you an insight into their teaching and research interests. This will give you an understanding of their priorities and enable you to contribute ideas for how the library's services and collections can be developed.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
