Environmental Health Officer
**Overview**:
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient execution of various duties within the Environmental Health Division. Your responsibilities will include inspecting premises, investigating complaints, implementing policies, and contributing to the achievement of the corporate objectives. You will also be responsible for training and supervision, preparing reports, attending meetings, and staying up-to-date with legal and technical developments in the field.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Assist in achieving the corporate objectives, particularly those related to the Environmental Health Division.
- Conduct inspections of premises, activities, food, water, chemical substances, and equipment, taking appropriate action as necessary.
- Support and assist in the formal training of employees, trainees, and students within the division.
- Supervise technical staff, trainees, and manual workers assigned for specific tasks or functions.
- Contribute to the preparation of business plans, budget estimates, and work programmes.
- Prepare reports and financial/statistical information as required, including annual reports and council presentations.
- Attend Committee, and external meetings as a representative of the Service and report when necessary.
- Ensure information systems comply with legislation and policies.
- Safeguard equipment assigned to the team.
- Prepare and deliver presentations and lectures internally and externally as required.
- Undertake functions outside the assigned team when necessary.
- Work outside normal office hours and weekends if required.
- Participate in the Department’s out-of-hours standby service.
- Stay up-to-date with legal and technical developments in the field, maintaining CPD records.
**Occasional Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities**:
- Prepare evidence, attend court, committee, or planning appeals.
- Attend technical group meetings.
- Deliver lectures/talks to various groups.
- Attend public liaison committees.
**General Responsibilities**:
- Adhere to Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults policies.
- Comply with Health and Safety Regulations and policies.
- Engage in personal and professional development through the Performance Appraisal Scheme.
- Incorporate risk management into daily activities and report concerns to managers.
- Produce performance information accurately and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to the Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably allocated to the post.
- Adhere to information security and data protection policies and procedures.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Degree in Environmental Health or related field.
- Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in environmental health or related field.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months
**Salary**: £38.46-£50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 21 per week
