**Job summary**:

- The principal function of these posts is to act as specialist national leads in emerging infections and zoonoses. There are two posts available and whilst one occupant will lead on emerging infections and one on zoonoses, both will work across these overlapping areas, The postholders will have lead responsibility for certain high consequence infectious diseases and emerging infections including clinical and public health responsibilities at a national level. The postholder will line manage scientific staff within the EIZ team, undertaking yearly appraisals and provide career development support as necessary.**Job description**:
The postholders will have responsibility for national clinical public health activities related to emerging and zoonotic infections including:

- Clinical leadership role in preparedness for emerging infections, zoonoses and high consequence infectious diseases, including public health advice, development and maintenance of guidance, and contributions to scientific advisory committees.
- Leadership roles in the provision of national public health services (surveillance, response, and clinical public health services) for high consequence infectious diseases, important zoonoses such as rabies, and infections identified as emerging or likely to emerge in the UK, such as vector borne diseases.
- Liaison with other government departments and organisations working on emerging infections, including NHS England, the High Consequence Infectious Diseases network, FCDO, MOD, and the devolved administrations
- Expert support to scientific advisory committees as required, including the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens
- Providing clinical and public health advice and assistance in zoonotic and emerging infectious incidents or outbreaks, and advising on clinical and epidemiological aspects of their prevention and control
- Supporting responses to international outbreaks and incidents with implications for public health in the UK through provision of evidence-based advice and guidance on emerging infections

Contribute to the provision of appropriate rotas, which may include the clinical and public health group duty consultant rota, the international health regulations rota, or other clinical or incident response rotas dependent on specialist experience and CPH group needs.

The postholder may, with his/her agreement (which should not reasonably be withheld), be required:

- to undertake other duties as required, which fall within the grading of this post, to meet the needs of the developing UKHSA
- to deputise and cover as necessary for colleagues during annual leave, study leave and other absences.
