**Elections - working at elections**

This year there will be combined Local and GMCA Mayoral Elections. Polling day will be Thursday 2 May and we are looking for volunteers to assist with various roles, which are detailed below.
- Polling Station Inspectors and Presiding Officers: £280 each per day, including training
- Chief Counter: £210 per count
- Runners, Count Assistants, and Reception: £140 each per count
- Postal Voter Openers: £12 per hour
- Poll Clerks: £190 per day, including training

Working hours on polling day will be from 7am-10pm. The Local count will be conducted on Friday, 3 May 2024 from 11 am at 2 locations, Heywood Sports Village and Rochdale Leisure Centre and the GMCA Mayoral count will take place on Saturday 4th May 2024 from 12 noon at the same two locations. Runners will be required to work from 10pm on Thursday, 2 May 2024.

If successful, full training will be given, and you'll be advised of fees at the time of appointment.

**Before you start**

Please make sure you've thought about which of the following roles you're interested in:

- Polling Station Inspectors: the post-holder will be required to make sure the polling stations meets legal requirements.
- Poll Clerks: following the introduction of the Elections Act the post-holder will be required to check voter ID and assist the Presiding Officer at a polling station - no previous experience required.
- Chief Counters: the post-holder will be in charge of a team of 6 counters and must have previous counting experience.
- Count Assistants: the post-holder will be required to count votes.
- Runners: the post-holder will be required to assist with the count set up and receipt of ballot boxes.
- Postal Vote Openers: the post-holder will assist with opening of postal votes and be required to work in the daytime 2 weeks prior to the election and on election day.
- Reception: the post-holder will be required to book staff in and give them a lanyard to enter the count when they arrive at the count centre.
