An exciting opportunity has arisen within Primary Care Optometry services for the role of Optometry Advisor.

The role will involve providing advice on the planning and commissioning of optometry services and to develop the quality of optometry services provided within the Health Board and its adherence with local and national Clinical Governance Standards.

The post-holder will be required to support the Health Board in implementing the Contract Reform programme together with planned care programmes. Close working with hospital-based eye care service clinical and managerial colleagues will be required as well as liaising regularly with the Health Board Optometry advisors across Wales.

To work closely with all stakeholders (e.g. WGOS Clinical leads, HEIW, primary care Cluster leads, other local health board Optometry Advisers) to develop and implement all WGOS.

To provide expert advice on all professional and clinical governance matters relating to optometry service developments/issues including health service ‘out of hospital’ developments, WGOS Regulations, introduction of shared care/co-managed schemes, national screening schemes, cluster development and integration of optometry services, and patient complaints.

To work closely with and provide expert clinical advice, to the local health board Eye Care Collaborative Group, ensuring attendance at all meetings.

To work with NWSSP and provide appropriate advice regarding Performers’ Lists, contract management and Post Payment Verification (PPV).

To provide advice and support to optometrists in the local health board, enabling robust and effective optometry governance processes. Work with HEIW and the national WGOS Clinical Lead to ensure provision of educational activities, enabling optometrists to continue their continued education and training to deliver services across the health board area.
