Learning Assistant needs to cater for a wide range of children’s needs and provide provision and organisation of a variety of learning experiences.

**Start Date: September 2023**

**A. Main Purpose of the Post**
- to provide support and intervention as guided by the class teacher for Reception and Key Stage 1.
- to nurture, engage and inspire all children to ensure they achieve their potential
- to promote and add to the School’s family ethos
- to provide excellent support and care for all the children, inspiring them to do their very best in all that they do
- to ensure the same care and attention is provided to the children when working in wraparound care
- to be a positive member of staff

**B. Responsible to **Headteacher & Senior Leadership Team

**C. Working Hours**
- Core working hours for this post are:

- 09:30-16:30 one day per week
- 12.00-18.00 two days per week, that is 17.5 hours per week during school term time
- 20 days during non term time - 07:50-17:30 (Easter, Summer and half-term holidays), that is 18.33 hours per week during school term break
- Wraparound Care - to be discussed at interview
- Attendance at all whole School INSET days normally 08:30 - 16:30
- Fully support ‘out-of-hours’ whole school activities e.g. Carnival, School Play, Open Days
- Additional hours available

**D. Main Responsibilities**

**Learning Assistant**
- To inspire and encourage children to develop their knowledge and understanding in all areas.

This will include supervising an individual child, a group of children and at times the whole class. Activities may include; telling/reading stories, practical activities, role play activities, outdoor play, developing social skills and visits.
- To work under the guidance of various teachers as required and to supervise and support the children as directed by them.
- To work with certain children on a one-to-one basis.
- To support the School’s programme of work and policies
- To promote a high standard of behaviour amongst the children
- To be sensitive to the needs of the children
- To undertake duties to support the supervision of the children at breaks and lunchtimes
- To communicate with the teachers on any matter concerning the welfare of the children
- On occasions to help with the various administration tasks for teachers and the Admin Team

**Lunchtime & Playtime Supervisor**
- To ensure safe and caring supervision of the children, in the dining area and playground (and classroom when wet)
- To work in conjunction with the other staff
- To liaise with the teaching staff and Senior Leadership Team on any issue relating to the children's pastoral care during the supervision period
- Ensure all children play safely and considerately and their behaviour is managed appropriately
- Keep a record of any accidents that may occur during the supervision period
- To encourage happy social relationships
- To encourage and lead (as appropriate) various playtime games
- To be in possession of a whistle at all times
- To ensure a prompt finish to the end of each lunch session, including organising the children so they are ready for their afternoon lessons
- To help supervise the pupils eating lunch, ensuring good table manners at all times
- To help set-up and clear items from the dining room (plates, food etc)

**Activity Camp**
- To lead activities
- Providing the same kind of service as in Wraparound, with the addition of various extra activities

**E. General Duties applicable to all Support Staff**

These are general duties that are relevant to all Support Staff
**General**
- To be a supportive member of staff, actively involve themselves in School life and undertake such other duties and responsibilities related to the post, when requested by any member of the Leadership Team
- Promoting the general progress and well-being of the children and be sensitive to the needs of all children
- To ensure that all information pertaining to individual children’s home life and other School matters be confidential and revealed on a “need to know” basis
- To communicate effectively and courteously with parents and assist with the promotion of parental support
- Communicating and co-operating with persons or bodies outside the School
- To maintain the School’s behaviour code and promote a high standard of behaviour amongst the children
- Taking and editing of digital photos

**Performance Review and Training**:

- Participating in any arrangements for the appraisal of your own performance and that of other staff
- Periodically reviewing your methods of work
- Participating in arrangements for further training and professional development
