Spanish Language Assistant

**Summary**
We are looking for a dynamic Spanish Language Assistant to join our Academy at this exciting time.

**About Us**
Harris Academy Wimbledon opened in September 2018. We are a brand new, co-educational 11-18 school for the High Path area. We currently have 900 students in year 7-11 and will open a 6th form in September 2023.

**Main Areas of Responsibility**
As our Spanish Language Assistant, you will:

- Complement the professional work of teachers taking responsibility for agreed activities under an agreed system of supervision
- Support the teaching of the Spanish language through conversation, songs, games and activities with students
- Help students prepare for oral examinations and practise their speaking skills, especially pronunciation, intonation and vocabulary
- Introduce students to aspects of their culture and inspire an international outlook.
- Encourage students to be more ambitious and outgoing, as well as helping them develop the ability to communicate their world views
- Deliver classes or conversation sessions to small groups of students or one-to-one
- Record videos on vocabulary topics to assist with pronunciation
- Record audio for listening practice, e.g. sound bites, everyday conversations
- Create comprehension activities and PowerPoints about selected cultural topics
- Design interactive materials such as online vocabulary games
- Complete displays for the department
- Support in raising the profile of the department through competitions
- Support the Subject Leader and Spanish teachers with administration and tasks
- Assist with marking of assessments (important for speaking assessments)
- Attend department and whole school CPD and moderation sessions
- Assist with behaviour systems such as supporting leaders with supervision during detentions
- Support with Year 11 and Year 12 Clinics
- Contribute to extra curricular activities and enrichment within the department

**Qualifications & Experience**

- You are a fluent Spanish speaker
- You understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning
- You understand how the most able students learn
- You understand the importance of having high expectations for all
students, both of behaviour and academic achievement
- You understand inclusive provision and practices which offer equality of access to the curriculum for all students, including special educational needs and English as an additional language
