Applications are invited for an Advanced Clinical Fellow post in Adult Critical Care Medicine for a 6 or 12 month period commencing in August 2023.

1 day per fortnight of paid CPD time is allocated for the successful applicant to pursue their clinical and non-clinical interests.

You will build a well-rounded portfolio of clinical experience, service development/audit, teaching and management. The aim of this post is to develop the necessary clinical and non-clinical skills in order to practice as a consultant in ICM.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):

- Perform daily reviews on ICU patients and present findings on the MDT ward round
- In conjunction with the consultant support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff as the senior member of the critical care team
- Review critically unwell patients outside of critical care
- Admit, stabilise and formulate an initial management plan for critically unwell adults
- Competently initiate ventilation, use vasopressors, insert CVC and Arterial Lines and be able to transfer the critically unwell patient.

During your time in post you will also:

- Support the learning and development of other members of the critical care team (inc undergraduates)
- Participate in clinical governance and quality improvement.
- Set individual goals

**About Us**

NUH consists of the Queens Medical Centre Campus and the Nottingham City Hospital Campus. Duties will be based at both campuses.

On the QMC campus the critical care area is divided into a 29-bedded intensive care (level 3 beds) and a 20-bedded level 2 HDU. The critical care area at the City campus has 17 beds that are used flexibly for level 2 and 3 care.* Between the three units we see approximately 4500 admissions per year. NUH is the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre and is one of the busiest trauma units in Europe. (*During the covid pandemic we were able to increase our capacity significantly).

We are fortunate to have a large and skilled MDT to support the medical team in delivery of critical care to Nottingham and the wider catchment area.

Ours is a diverse and vibrant city having a busy and culturally exciting centre, two universities and yet close proximity to picturesque villages, the Peak District, Sherwood Forest and Rutland Water.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is open to all applicants who meet the essential criteria as detailed in the person specification below. It is open to all doctors who hold Full/limited registration with the GMC and who will have successfully completed Stage 2 or equivalent in ICM prior to August 2023.

The post is EWTD compliant and is banded at 1A.

The Salary for this post will be at MT05 Level

All successful applicants are allocated a clinical supervisor who will support the individual to develop their clinical and non-clinical skills and offer advice on how to achieve any specific individual goals the fellow may wish to achieve. **Person Specification**: Advanced Clinical Fellow in Adult Critical Care Medicine

Essential for the post:

- MB ChB or equivalent & GMC registration with licence to practise
- Will have completed the equivalent of Stage 2 ICM by the time of appointment
- Primary Post Graduate Qualification (e.g. MRCP, Primary FRCA)
- Ability to stabilise the deteriorating patient (including intubation and the initiation of organ support)
- Evidence of continuous career development
- Evidence of good written communication, successful team worker, sensitivity to needs of patients and colleagues
- Punctuality, professional appearance and attitudes consistent with GMC guidelines. Values and behaviours aligned with NUH’s

Desirable for the post:

- Final FRCA or FFICM
- ALS or equivalent accredited life support course
- Completion of Stage 1 Critical Care Training
- Experience of senior on-call roles in the acute specialities in the UK
- Completion of an Audit Cycle
- Published Research
- Evidence of academic achievement including additional qualifications, prizes
- Competence in Bronchoscopy, Lung Ultrasound and Focused ECHO
- Attendance at meetings/ courses/ membership of professional bodies
