Technical Assistant - Job Description

Aim

Food Safety and the safety of our teams and customers is of paramount importance to the group. We aim to operate with an unblemished safety record and to do so require all of our team members to operate within a considered and robust safety framework. This role is responsible not only for the design and maintenance of these frameworks but also their successful implementation across the retail and restaurant channels. Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive)
- Managing surveillance testing programme, including organising samples for microbiological testing, liaising with the lab and interpreting the results.
- Support in rolling out system updates e.g. supplier assurance, weight checks and traceability.
- Review and maintenance of supplier approval process, including spec review & obtaining/ reviewing necessary documentation e.g. Food safety, Sustainability, Halal & other accreditations.
- Working with food and supply teams to ensure all ingredient information is accurately transferred to internal systems, across platforms, reports and product labels.
- Work with training teams to ensure safety training is effective and delivered where required.
- Log, track & lead investigate supplier related issues or complaints with help from local teams & suppliers. Review & implement emergency recall and incident management procedures
- Support with investigations, evidence collection & providing outcomes for safety related cases such as Alleged Food Poisoning, Alleged Foreign Body, Allergy and Accidents & incidents
- Supporting the Head of Technical & Safety and Technical Manager with projects & initiatives to drive improvement.
- Creating and sharing reports with safety team, ops team and other departments e.g. Trail app, Riskproof, iAuditor, Pest Control.
- Evaluating and conducting trending reports and sharing with safety team, other departments and ops team.
- Creating and developing continuous improvement plans.
- Registering new sites and supporting franchisee team to transfer ownership.
- Working with safety compliance officers to ensure the correct support is offered to the relevant regions.
- Ensure the food safety culture, legality and quality of finished goods and continually challenge and improve the system
- Completion of site audits against internal procedures document in FSMS/ HACCP, SOPs, RAs & HSMS.
- Ensure all the relevant analysis / checks are carried out to ensure the stability of ingredients and its claims

Technical Assistant - Job Description
- Conducting new & existing supplier audits as part of supplier approval & assurance
- Manage and lead the supplier approval & assurance process. Check & approve accurate declaration of ingredients and allergen information
- Manage & lead surveillance testing programme
- Plan, conduct & publish internal audits when required. Compile, analyse & report data to ascertain trends and areas where improvement is required aiming to achieve better results with each round
- Provide accurate and timely reporting as required by line management
- Ensure that all Health & Safety/ Food Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to, also align & comply with landlord or regional requirements - Manage incident management and product recall procedure - Follow up on processes to prevent any incidents & actively deal with food safety complaints including Allergy, Alleged Foreign body and Alleged Food poisoning. Ensure such serious complaints are properly documented, investigated, responded to and recommended improvements are implemented
- Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements are implemented. Trends are analysed & corrective action taken
- Keep track of audits results, trends and open outstanding actions from all audits including internal & external, and drive timely completion of such actions
- Working with the L&D team support the development of any training materials required for Food Safety/ H&S - notably allergens
- Liaise with and develop strong relationships with the relevant parties including Operations, Training, Marketing, Supply & Food team to deliver the required safety, quality and product specification assurance
- Drive strategy & framework to improve results when audited by external independent auditors & government bodies e.g. Environmental Health Officers. Help deliver top ratings in Food hygiene inspections being conducted by local authority. Liaise with Local Authority Inspectors and enforcement officials as and when required
- Keep up to date with all innovation and developments. Stay updated with changes in law or legislation & industry practices specially around Food safety, Trading standards, Packaged goods and PPDS regulations
