**Job Description** RESPONSIBILITIES**

**_ PEOPLE_***
- Support and assessment of practical skills within the workplace.
- Allocate work, provide guidance and supervise apprentices to ensure work tasks are delivered effectively.
- Provide support with progress reviews helping provide feedback to allow growth of individuals.
- Liaise with other internal stakeholders to deliver best practice based on experience.
- Coach and support apprentices to ensure that are confident and competent in the workplace/environment.
- Actively listen to the apprentices
- Ensure apprentices follow the policies and procedures directed by Harland & Wolff and advocate for the company values.
- Promote and encourage a culture of event reporting for all identified issues in relation to Safety, Continuous Improvement and Learning from Experience (LFE)
- Supervise and guide apprentices to ensure that the required standard of works is achieved.

**_ OPERATIONAL _**
- Provide technical guidance and learning frameworks to the team and ensure they are exposed to the necessary tasks in order to exceed the course requirements.
- Look for new initiatives to support the business, utilising fresh ideas and employee feedback to improve motivation and remove autonomy.
- Collaborate with different departments and trades to ensure that apprentices are exposed to each area of the business and have a positive attitude towards other colleagues.
- Ensure all apprentices are correctly attired and equipped with PPE and tools sufficient to carry out the duties as directed.
- To identify training needs on the safe use of equipment or safe methods of work, providing this training where applicable or highlighting to the Apprentice Supervisor.
- Carry out quality inspections and feeding back to Apprentice Supervisor.
- To provide cover for the Apprentice Supervisor during periods of absence and when required.
- Skills in the following, Hand burning, use of a Quickie burning Machine cutting straight lines, preps and various shapes. Vertical Burning machines, again cutting Preps and straight cuts.
- Marking and Setting out
- The ability to carry out heating and heat straightening, straightening
- The ability to carry out block Assembly
- The ability to read, understand and replicate the information from drawings into actual fabrications.
- Heat treating steel plate of various thickness, i.e straightening plate, shaping plate etc by use of heat and cold.
- Experience on ship fabrication/ repair/ modular structures / and all types of construction from steel.
- Manufacturing Tubing from material up to 50mm thickness, i.e rolling, forming, tacking in preparation for welding.
- Look for new initiatives to support the business, utilising fresh ideas and employee feedback to improve motivation and remove autonomy.
- You will be required to work independently, problem solve and carry out the Apprentice lead duties in their absence such as during annual leave.

HEALTH SAFETY AND QUALITY_***

**Champion the control of work processes including all aspects of Health & Safety to highlight the importance to our apprentices, including but not limited to**:

- Operating in accordance with required principles and practice
- Work Authority
- Risk Assessments
- Point of Work Safety Assessments
- Safety Walk rounds
- Toolbox talks
- Safety discussion and initiatives involving your team***

Follow all the control of work processes to ensure safety and compliance.
- COSHH
- Manual Handling
- Hot Work
- Confined Space
- Risk Assessments (brief and record)
- Abrasive wheels

Ensure the workplace is at all times safe and meets appropriate health, safety and environment standards.

Understand the tasks required including risk and control measures.

Release production activities, restrict or suspend any activity including contractors and cease any activity if you consider safety is being compromised.

Ensure compliance with requirements of the Quality Management System, taking advise as necessary to avoid the need for re-work etc.

**Qualifications**
- Demonstrates competency in line with the requirements above
- Adequate Trade knowledge
- ILM 3 or prepared to work towards
- Demonstrates Leadership qualities in line with Company ethos
- IOSHH or willing to work towards
- Completed a relevant apprenticeship first hand
- Experience of supporting trainee’s in the workplace would be an advantage

Experience of multiple markets would be an advantage
