**Job summary**:
This is a challenging role in a high-performing Personnel Security team. As part of DIT’s Core Security Team, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the provision of our clustered National Security Vetting service to the department, building on established relationships within and outside the department to provide high quality delivery and hold the service provider to account.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to work within an innovative, professional and evolving unit, providing the interface between vetting stakeholders and DIT colleagues. You will play an important part in delivering Personnel Security in line with both DIT’s risk appetite and Government Security standards.

You will be responsible for ensuring that DIT’s Personnel Security policies are effective, and adhered to, so that DIT’s National Security Vetting, including aftercare, is carried out efficiently and fairly. As an SEO in a developing and dynamic environment, you will play an active role in delivering services:

- Building and implementing the Personnel Security Strategy
- Supporting Insider Threat mechanisms
- Assisting in ongoing role mapping to ensure DIT’s assets and information are safeguarded by
commensurate levels of vetting
- Motivating and building the capabilities of staff
- Conducting investigative interviews and briefing staff on security vulnerabilities
- Assessment of and advice to business areas on the management of Personnel Security risks

You will be trusted with highly sensitive and personal information, which must be handled securely in line with data protection requirements, and you will maintain a professional and understanding approach with vetting applicants.

As a manager you will provide advice and direction to colleagues to support the timely and efficient delivery of decisions. This role is suited to a person who can make difficult risk-based decisions, communicate effectively and manage relationships with stakeholders who have varied priorities.

**Job description**:
This role is suited to someone who has experience in personnel security, vetting and aftercare, with skills in making assessments and decisions based on sound risk management principles. The ability to deal compassionately and robustly is fundamental.

You will hold line management responsibility for members of Personnel Security Team, setting standards and overseeing personal development and ensuring effective outcomes.

You will engage with external departments and stakeholders and represent DIT at cross-governmental forums and working groups. As the key customer for clustered NSV service, you will ensure DIT achieves both value for money and quality of service from our delivery partners in FCDO and UKSV.

**Stakeholder Management**
- You will be the champion for and deliverer of effective personnel security for DIT, building professional and supportive relationships across the department and with other stakeholders
- You will promote vetting policies and procedures with staff at all levels, as well as providing the rationale for decisions, and explaining outcomes including in one-to-one interviews

**Vetting**
- You will be responsible for maintaining the Personnel Security inbox and for processing staff National Security Vetting (NSV) clearances

**Records Management**
- You will appropriately document decisions, update records and maintain appropriate metric data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the department’s security strategy
- You will present information to governance committees
- You will be required to respond to Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information requests
- You will be required to perform any additional duties, reasonably expected, within the scope of the grade and the limits of your skill, competence and training

**Hybrid working**

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
