Fracture Toughness Test Technician

Working with Steel Forgings and castings within a Heavy Engineering environment, they provideglobally for a range of industries from Defence and Marine, Offshore, Power Generation, Civil Nuclear and more.**

**Salary**:
Paying £32,584 per annum DOE

**Shifts**:
Working 37.5 hours, regular days, Monday to Friday. 08:00am - 16:00pm

**Duties**:

- Read, understand, and adhere to all relevant Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures to ensure that all tasks are conducted safely.
- Support the Test Technician Supervisor to achieve the required testing completion dates.
- Ensure that all fractured test pieces are appropriately stored and identified for return to customer, if required.
- Perform fracture toughness testing.
- Perform tensile testing.
- Perform Charpy impact testing.
- Perform Hardness testing.
- Perform Metallographic Testing.
- Computer data input.
- Operation of heat treatment furnaces as required.
- Occasional van driving for material pick-up/drop off.
- Occasional saw and machining operation to cover absence.
- Knowledge of testing standards & specifications and QA requirements including ASTM, ISO and BS
- Computer literate - familiar with MS Office
- Experience in a busy testing laboratory working to demanding timescales
- Extensive mechanical testing experience (tensile, Charpy impact, hardness, metallography, etc.)
- Fracture toughness testing knowledge and experience
- Metallographic testing knowledge and experience
- Good team working and communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions and confidence to raise any issues or concerns
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Flexibility and willingness to work overtime if required
- ONC/HNC/BTEC in Metallurgy/Materials/Mechanical Engineering
- A working knowledge of material specifications
- Knowledge and experience of machining processes.
