Higher Scientific Officer in The Supply Team

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK.
**We have two vacancies for Higher Scientific Officers in the Supply Team.**
This exciting and interesting job puts you at the heart of the VMD’s work in facilitating the authorisation and availability of veterinary medicines. You will be part of a team with diverse activities in a target driven environment where quality of service is essential. You will liaise with other scientific disciplines in the VMD and a range of stakeholders, including the veterinary pharmaceutical industry, wholesale dealers, and veterinary professionals.
The regulation of veterinary medicines is undergoing significant change as a result of Brexit; therefore, this is a busy role that requires you to problem solve, prioritise, and think on your feet. You will need to organise yourself as part of a wider team to ensure continued delivery of business priorities.
**Experience & Qualifications required**:
You must have a degree in a relevant scientific discipline, e.g. biology, pharmaceutical science, or equivalent scientific experience.
We require someone that has experience of:
- working under pressure within a target driven environment.
- summarising complex scientific information suitable for lay readership.
- producing material that is scientifically accurate.
- acting corporately.
We require someone that:
- is proactive at troubleshooting issues.
- pays attention to detail.
- has sound analytical skills and good judgement to inform their decisions.
- is fluent in English language (spoken and written).
- is proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and have the ability to learn in-house packages quickly.
