**Financial Accountant** - The Role

We are looking for a driven Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team here at SPB. This is an opportunity for an individual looking to enhance their skills, knowledge and develop to a financial controller.

We ideally would like the individual to have knowledge of the insurance business and experience of a partial VAT return.

Reporting directly to the UK Finance Director, this is a key role within the business, working in conjunction with the finance team to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner including reporting, payments, and forecasting.

**Financial Accountant** - Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of the monthly management accounts pack and assist the finance director in the production of the company’s annual financial statements to external accountants and liaising with same and when instructed to do so
- Cashflow management including reforecasting and petty cash. Ensuring that all bank account balances are positive daily with adequate funds
- Assist the finance director in the production of annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts and support key budget holders in the production of departmental budgets and monthly monitoring of performance
- Preparation and submission of statutory returns: VAT/PAYE/ONS/FCA
- Monthly reporting inline with Group reporting timetable, and submission on Group systems
- Maintain the Company’s accounting system and records, including invoices and payments queries and escalating to the Financial Director in the event that an inconsistency arises
- Supporting the Financial Director in maintaining good relationships with the Company’s corporate bank(s), insurance providers and external auditors
- Responsibility for the balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist the Financial Team with the task of issuance of monthly premium/claims reports and payments to insurers for whom the Company operates under Binding Authority arrangements and assist the Finance Team Leader in the resolution of any queries that maysubsequently be raised by insurers
- Support the Financial Director with keeping the business aware of risks associated with general banking collection practices (including BACS) and related issues, where possible assisting the Financial Director with the generation of potential solutions
- Response and investigation of messages received via the Direct Debit system relating to cancellations and bank account errors. Overall responsibility of the Direct Debits and day to day collections
- Carry out research regarding both new and existing accounting legislation changes that may impact the business as may be required from time to time by the Finance Director
- Assist the Financial Director in the revision or creation of financial processes necessary to support new scheme initiatives, liaising with the Technical & Compliance Team as may be required
- Attending presentations to new and existing clients in support of the Financial Director when needed
- Performance of ad hoc tasks for the Financial Director as and when required
- Adherence to the Company’s regulatory requirements necessary for completion of tasks, where necessary
- Training and managing an assistant management accountant
