This is a new role as part of our new restructured Elections Team. This role reports into the Executive Director of Customer of Governance and is integral to delivering a comprehensive, efficient and effective, electoral registration and elections service.
The Head of Elections will lead the service to not only deliver elections and electoral functions but also to create a "one team approach" to Elections throughout the Council and promote voting and democracy within North Northamptonshire.
Following a service restructure, we are recruiting for a Head of Elections to ensure that our electorate receive the best possible service when exercising their democratic rights. We are looking for a committed, experienced and ambitious Head of Elections to lead a busy elections team. We need the postholder to continually deliver efficient electoral services which comply with electoral registration and election legislation and which meet performance standards set by the Electoral Commission. This is an exciting opportunity to build a team, lead on elections for one of the newest and largest local authorities in England and improve democracy for North Northamptonshire.
What will you be doing?
This role will lead and manage the Electoral Services Team to deliver an effective an efficient electoral service for North Northamptonshire. This includes ensuring that all electoral legislation and good practice is adhered to, including but not limited to maintenance and publication of the Register of Electors and the Annual Canvass.
The Council has a significant amount of bi-elections as well as planned elections and the postholder will lead their team to prepare for these as well as planned elections.
The Council is keen to promote awareness and understanding of the democratic process through the development and implementation of public engagement plans, demonstrating new and innovative ways of maximising registration and improving voter turnout. This role will lead on these initiatives.
