**Bath Area Play Project (BAPP) are a small registered charity with a strong inclusive ethos who have worked in the Bath area since 1979 supporting children in their right to play and provision of a range of play opportunities to bring families together. BAPP provides a range of services of which this is one. These include holiday playschemes for SEND children, a Nursery & Pre-school, youth projects for disabled teenagers and community play provision.**

**We have a year-round staff team of 15 with an additional 25 staff employed during the school holidays. As a voluntary sector organisation and registered charity, we are governed by Trustees who are all volunteers who meet regularly throughout the year to oversee governance, performance and finances.**

**The main functions of the role are**:
Holding a caseload where you will build effective and trusting relationships with families referred for support often related to trauma including the development of physical and emotional caring skills including improved attachment through regular support at home, in the community or in groups.

Enabling families to become more resilient and less socially isolated using nurturing play and emotional support as a catalyst for change in behaviour and confidence_. _

To use a child-centred approach, supporting the participation of children in the design and review of the support / service

To support parents to develop improved relationships with their children through play, increase their confidence and develop their emotional well-being and supporting family cohesion.

The Family Play Support Worker role is part of the commissioned Early Help service, the Family Support & Play Service working in partnership with Southside, providing support for children and families before the statutory threshold is met or joint working. Referrals for the service come from parents and families themselves, schools, social care, parents, Health Visitors, GPs and from multi-agency EHAP. You will need to have or be able to develop good knowledge of services for children and families in the local area to enable effective partnership working.

The successful post holder will need to work within all agency and BCSSP Safeguarding Procedures and Policies and ensure that the service protects and safeguards children and young people at all times.

As a voluntary sector organisation, staff are able to use their own initiative and be creative in your response to situations, using a solution focused approach whilst fully supportive of the ethos and principles of community development, playwork and the family partnership model.

The role is based in the BAPP office in Odd Down Community Centre which is a fully accessible community building with unrestricted on street parking and served by a public bus service. Staff work in shared office spaces and you will be joining a small, friendly team

**Responsibilities and Duties**

You will be providing whole family support, working directly with vulnerable and complex families with children aged 5 to 19 years in line with the criteria of the service and enabling and empowering change to support improved outcomes for the family. You will need to be an excellent communicator as the role involves working with a range of partners and service users in a non-judgemental way ensuring the voice of the child is central.

You will be working as part of a staff team of Family Play Support Workers and Community Play Support Workers providing whole family support and Family group work for children, young people and families across B&NES. During the school holidays, working with the team to facilitate and provide a range of community based play opportunities at Playdays, supporting families living across B&NES.

Caseload management is done through a shared database and online outcome tools for which you will need to have confident IT skills, excellent time management and ability to prioritise workload in order to meet deadlines

**Qualifications and Skills**

Ideally you will have a qualification in a related field, a Playwork, Community or Family work or Youthwork qualification and have excellent written and oral communication skills

You will have an excellent knowledge of child development and the importance and value of play for children of all ages.

You will have an understanding of trauma, ACES and complexities of Family work or have a background in social care, family support or pastoral education.

You will have experience of family support services for vulnerable families/ community services including managing and supervising own workload.

You will have recent experience of working collaboratively to deliver services as well as experience of networking and establishing relationships in order to support your families in the best way.

Confident at report writing including use of Word, Excel and Powerpoint
