Reporting to the Chief Engineer (Design Integrity), you will provide independent assurance of product compliance in support of design certification.
- The RATS Line of Business is located in Edinburgh and Newcastle and occasional travel will be requested to other locations within the UK and Internationally.
- The individual will work closely with many different engineering disciplines, customers, partners and suppliers; Contributing to continual improvement of the Engineering Capability of the RATS LoB.You will be working with supportive, talented and innovative engineers, whilst also building strong relationships with our customers and partners.

- Day to day, you will be working closely with the RATS LoB engineering delivery functions and IPTs to assure the compliance of the design with the relevant company and regulatory requirements.- You will:
- Operate as an independent checker / Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) for design certification of Leonardo products.
- Represent the Chief Engineer Design Integrity within the wider company organisation as required.
- Provide input and advice to the product development teams, operating as a consultant to ensure regulatory requirements are understood and met, products are producible, tolerably safe, fit for purpose and reliable in their intended environment.
- Chair design reviews on Products, Systems and Services within domain expertise.
- Review Integrated Project Team Engineering Plans to ensure they comply with company policy, in particular considering the design governance and certification activities.
- Convene and Chair Product Safety Panels
- Support IPTs in achieving compliance with safety and cyber security regulations and guidance throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Develop and deliver training courses and guidance to the product development teams on engineering governance and certification.

Depending on experience you may:
- Operate as a deputy company signature/board signature for design certification.
- Represent Design Integrity/Leonardo Electronics within external interest forums.
- Support the Head of Safety and Head of Product Security with Engineering Management of the wider community of safety and security practitioners.

You really must have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to obtain SC security clearance and work within UKEO and US ITAR TAA restrictions.
- Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities to achieve product certification.
- Capability to identify and direct improvements to complex technical and business processes, judging the balance between the cost and impact of change and its resulting benefits.
- The ability to understand complex engineering processes and the inter-dependency of the process components.
- Experience of certification to recognised standards including experience in Integration, Test, Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA).
- A passion for promoting and improving the safety and security of complex systems.**What we are looking for**:

- You should have as many of the following as possible:
- Practical experience of developing a security or safety risk management system for complex products based on a recognised framework in a highly regulated industry such as aerospace, nuclear, automotive, rail or oil & gas;
- Practical experience of the System Development Life Cycle, Software Development Life Cycle, V-Models and Agile frameworks;
- A 2:1 or higher in a relevant engineering or science-based honours degree
- Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
