**Description of Department**:
**Role Purpose**:
Mounted Constables are responsible for providing a unique Policing resource with heightened response and public engagement value, building public trust and confidence in supporting Policing activities. This could include responding to incidents, maintaining public order, preventing and detecting crime.

**Key Accountabilities**:
Patrol communities as directed in response to high profile incidents or ongoing high volumes of criminal activity, supporting community events, providing public reassurance and the prevention and detection of crime.

Police public and ceremonial events, responding to risks, threats and incidents in line with operational tasking; to ensure public order, to safeguard the public and colleagues and to prevent criminal activity.

Gather and handle information and intelligence from a range of sources, in line with legislation, policies and guidance, taking appropriate action to support investigations, law enforcement and criminal justice proceedings.

Manage conflict by taking control where appropriate, taking account of personal and public safety and horse welfare to ensure that situations are handled in a safe and proportionate manner.

Interact with members of the public, local businesses and partners; to support the delivery of a visible and interactive Police Service.

Develop and maintain equitation and public order skill set, to retain National competency level for Mounted Officer, and to develop / enhance personal performance within the team.

**Essential Criteria**:
Successful applicants should either be the holder of an ACPO Standard Equitation Certificate (SEC) or be prepared to undertake a 16 week riding course to be run either at CoLP training facility, Bushy Park, or Imber Court (MPS).

**Desirable Criteria**:
Applicants are preferably Level 2 trained in Public Order, or have previously been so.

Demonstrate an ability to walk, trot and canter in balance.

Any applicants who successfully complete a paper-sift, will then be required to attend a 1 day practical assessment and interview. For existing holders of an SEC, this will be to determine suitability for immediate selection, and for others to assess suitability to embark on the 16 week training course.

These are expected to take place from mid April 2024, and will include a riding assessment for balance, control and ability to follow instructions throughout, in the paces suited to an individual’s ability. The assessments will be held at The Stockyard, Bushy Park.

Standard riding courses will start as and when they can be sourced at Bushy Park or Imber Court.
