Salary - £22,369.35/annum ( pro rata), £11.44/hr

The hours for this role are flexible each week depending on the practice need. Hours will be worked between 08.00am and 20.00pm Monday to Friday with occasional Saturdays during the year

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture (taking blood) as requested by the clinical team.

The following are the main responsibilities of the Phlebotomist.

a. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample

b. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

c. Maintaining accurate patient records on TPP Systmone (clinical system name).

d. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples.

e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

f. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner.

g. Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at the Royal United Hospital

h. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Provide chaperone service for GP’s and RGN’s if required
