**Job Introduction**:
The BBC Pronunciation Research Unit, part of BBC Editorial Policy and Standards, provides advice on the pronunciation of names, words and phrases in any language required by anybody in the BBC. The Unit is staffed by Pronunciation Linguists who carry out research and communicate advice to broadcasters. We are recruiting for a **Linguist (phonetician/phonologist) **to join our team based in London.
**Main Responsibilities**:
The role of a **Pronunciation Linguist** is to carry out linguistic research and deliver advice on pronunciation in all languages to BBC programme makers, ensuring that pronunciations in BBC broadcasts are accurate and anglicised in a consistent manner, appropriate to the context. You will receive and manage requests for advice, assessing users' needs, prioritising work and carrying out rigorous research, in line with established practices. You will also review pronunciation-specific audience feedback and, on request, help formulate responses for Complaints teams, Senior Management or the BBC Board.
In addition to promoting the service across the BBC to raise awareness, visibility and maximise usage, and representing the Unit and the BBC to high professional standards (in person and in writing) in internal and external contexts, you will also establish and maintain good working relationships with specialists in the field of Phonetics/Linguistics, language professionals and pronunciation specialists at other global broadcasters.
With experience of working in a strongly customer-focused environment, you will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels. In addition, you will have an excellent eye for detail, possess strong planning and prioritising experience, be able to meet the needs of users and work under pressure to tight deadlines. You will have strong research and IT skills.
Key competencies include a good team-working ethic and sound editorial judgement.

**Package Description**:
Band: C
Contract type: Permanent
Location: London based role with some flexibility - i.e. hybrid working
Job Title: in-house title is Pronunciation Advisor
**Salary**: salary anticipated to be within the range of £37,000 to £45,000pa (inclusive of London Weighting £5,164), depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
