Our client, based in **Belfast** are seeking a **Home Safety Officer** to join their team.

**Main Purpose of the Role**:
To be responsible to the Environmental Health Manager (Public Health) through the Principal Environmental Health Officer (Public Health and Housing) for the efficient and effective implementation of the department’s home safety programme.

To assist management in the development of the home safety programme and to develop and provide a range of relevant educational, training and promotional home safety activities.

To develop and maintain high standards of service delivery through close liaison with the unit’s professional and technical staff and through partnership working with various external groups, bodies and specialists on a province wide basis.

To ensure that all duties assigned to the post holder are carried out in accordance with agreed time and quality targets.

To ensure high standards of service delivery through the motivation and effective supervision of staff.

**Pay Rate**: £16.12 Per Hour + Holiday Pay

**Working Hours**:8:30am - 5pm

**Job Type**:Temporary, ongoing position

**Job Duties**:

- To supervise the operation of the home safety check scheme and any other programmes of work assigned to Home Safety Assistants and to develop and evaluate home safety activities from inception through implementation to review.
- To assist in the administration of the home safety check scheme.
- To coordinate educational outreach and promotional work related to home safety including organising and implementing campaigns and exhibitions.
- To research and identify sponsorship and funding opportunities for a range of home safety activities.
- To administer, implement and review any programmes which are externally funded in accordance with council procedures.
- To research and develop good practice and maintain innovative and continuous improvement in home safety activities.
- To keep under review developments in the field of home safety to ensure a sound knowledge of current statistical information, legislation, specific hazards and their avoidance, current good practice and official guidance and to share this knowledge with colleagues, staff and customers.
- To actively participate in the unit’s business planning process including the development of annual marketing plan.
- To promote involvement from statutory, private, voluntary and community sectors to support home safety activities by proactively establishing and maintaining a network of relevant contacts.
- To build and develop partnerships with relevant bodies such as HAPNI, ROSPA, local schools, BELB, NIHE, CAPT and Belfast Community Trusts.
- To create and design promotional materials targeted at the specific needs and expectations of a wide range of groups and individuals.
- To assist in the organisation, planning and implementation of induction training of home safety assistants, to identify their continuing training needs and to assist the organisation, planning and implementation, as required, in the design and implementation of training programmes to address those needs.
- To participate as directed in the council’s selection interview procedure.
- To undertake the duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of the city council.
- To undertake such other relevant duties as may from time to time be required.

**Job Criteria**:

- Possess a full, current driving licence which enables them to drive in Northern Ireland and have a car available for official business, or, access to a form of transport which will enable them to meet the requirements of the post in full

a) Coordinating educational outreach and promotional work including organising and implementing campaigns and exhibitions preferably on home safety or other relevant area

b) Undertaking community engagement or involvement activities and developing networks or partnerships

c) Managing assigned staff on a daily basis including programming workloads and priorities.

- **Communication skills**: a good standard of written communication skills, including the ability to compose reports and letters on complex issues in a clear and simple style. Ability to communicate effectively, particularly with community groups and partner organisations.

**- Organisational and work planning skills**: the ability to prioritise and plan work with a minimum of supervision and demonstrate a practical approach to decision making.
