Senior Rent Accounting Officer

Job Role
You will be reporting to the Rent Accounting Manager and working within the Finance & Resources Directorate. Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Accurately set, record and post rents and other charges for all Soha properties
- Manage the calculation and collection of rents via Direct Debit
- Assist with the annual rent setting process in line with Soha rent policy
- Advise tenants, colleagues and other contacts on matters relating to rents and charges
- Provide support to the Rent Accounting Manager and finance team as required including annual budgets and the Statistical Data Return
- Financial and administrative duties relating to the recording and reconciling of all forms of rental income and housing benefit on Soha’s housing management system QL
Key Duties
- Assist the Rent Accounting Manager in relation to rent setting on new builds and re-lets and the annual charge changes.
- Responsible for ensuring timely calculation, setup and processing of every day Direct Debits
- Calculate amount required by DD based on housing benefit entitlement
- Recalculate DD as required to reflect changes in HB entitlement
- Sign up tenants to Direct Debits using the Paperless PTX system
- Maintain the Direct Debits already on the system via bi-monthly recalculations
- Receive and record cash, card and allpay payments
- Reconcile cash and card payments received daily.
- Process housing benefit and universal credit payments, maintaining HB references in QL
- Process adjustments, transfers, refunds and write offs as required.
- Process End of Day journals and upload them into Open Accounts
- Provide complex rent accounting analysis and history to colleagues who chase up arrears
- Deal with customer account queries daily, both in person and over the phone
- Process payment transfers from the suspense account to tenant accounts
- Any other duties as reasonably required
What you will need:
- Good financial knowledge
- Excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills
- A positive and proactive approach
- High level of numeracy and literacy and excellent IT skills, in particular Excel
- Ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and to use tact and diplomacy
- Ability to meet targets and deadline
- Ability to work in a team and use own initiative
It would also be nice to have
- Experience within the housing sector
- Experience of using Open Accounts
- Experience of using QL (Aareon)
