What do I do as an On-Call Firefighter?

As an On-Call Firefighter, you will be required to attend a range of operational incidents. Our Firefighters deliver a range of Community Safety initiatives to reduce the number of fires, accidents and all associated injuries, often in partnership with other groups. This is a varied and exciting role for anyone, regardless of background, who wish to push themselves and help protect their community.

What availability is required?

On-Call Firefighters are required to respond to their community fire station when an incident occurs. The availability of potential firefighters is considered at the early stages through a discussion to ensure that it complements the requirements within the team. We are interested to talk with anyone that believes that they have what it takes to be part of #TeamBedsFire.

A retaining fee is paid for your availability along with additional payments for incidents, community activities and training attended. What are the entry requirements?

What is important to us is that you are professional, physically fit and can meet certain essential requirements. We have many On-Call opportunities across the county. These roles are demanding, but in return, offer the chance to make a real contribution.

**To become an On-Call Firefighter you must**:
live or work within a reasonable distance (6 minutes travelling time) of the On-Call fire station (you must obtain approval from your employer to attend emergencies during your working hours)
be at least 18 years of age by the start of your employment
be physically fit
hold a full UK driving licence
