This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a physiotherapy team working across a wide variety of medical wards including: Respiratory, general medicine, renal, infectious diseases and oncology.

Full training will be provided to ensure you are supported and a competency framework will be used to ensure you have the appropriate skills to assist with physiotherapy treatments, and to carry a small caseload of patients where mobilisation and exercise plans need to be completed.

Applicants need to be flexible, reliable, demonstrate confidence in dealing with the public and the hospital multidisciplinary team.

We work closely with the inpatient multidisciplinary team including: nurses, occupational therapists, doctors, discharge planning co-ordinators and social care professionals. This enables close multidisciplinary working to achieve combined goals, effective discharge planning and improved patient flow from the acute setting.

**Work will primarily involve**:

- Carrying out treatment plans devised by the Physiotherapists.
- Assisting the therapists in the assessment and treatment of patients with physical or cognitive impairments.
- Participating in the treatment of patients.
- To instruct patients in the use of walking aids and provide advice to patients and carers regarding safety issues associated with walking aids according to UHS protocols.
- To assist in basic stock checks, equipment ordering and cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- General administrative duties.
- Attending Staff Meetings and In-Service Training Sessions.
- Liaising with patients, families, carers, outside agencies etc. to optimise patient care and discharge planning.

The post would include being part of the rostered seven day working.

There are other Physiotherapy Assistants employed by the Trust; providing opportunity for peer support and peer learning.

Specific

**Responsibilities**:
1. To maintain and collate activity statistics regarding physiotherapy activity, according to departmental procedures
2. To maintain a clean and tidy working environment e.g. Wipe plinths, change pillow cases, maintain tidy gym environment and office space
3. To provide administrative support to the team you are working in i.e. photocopying, filing and faxing, as requested
4. Complete as appropriate a mobility aid/ appliance loan form accurately upon issue of equipment
5. Assist, as requested, with typing patient related information. To be competent in basic word skills and Physio Tools
6. Retrieve, as requested, patient notes and X-rays from medical records
7. Become familiar and use Trust IT systems
