**Purpose of the role?**:
Our Community Hub at Weoley Castle is a hive of activity for people with a learning disability, their family and carers and the wider local community.

To help meet our aim of providing meaningful activities, we would like to offer regular DIY and gardening sessions to our citizens to increase their skills and confidence.

**What would I be doing?**:
We are looking for a volunteer gardener / handy person to provide some DIY based activities such as up-cycling old furniture by sanding and painting, in accordance with health and safety policies.

We would also like to run gardening projects, planting a variety of flowers, fruit and veg through the year in our garden area and planters.

**What do I need?**:
You will be aged 18+ and preferably have experience of using basic tools and electric / hand powered tools whilst adhering to health and safety policies.

You will also ideally have experience of performing routine gardening tasks. You will need a good attention to detail and the ability to work safely.

**This role might suit a retired person with experience of home DIY or general maintenance.**

**To be a volunteer you will also need to be**:

- Friendly
- Calm and patient
- A good listener
- Accepting of people who may be different to you
- Happy to chat
- Willing to learn and act within guidelines set out by Midland Mencap
- Good time management skills, reliability
- An enhanced DBS check will be required by all successful applicants.

**When and where do you need me?**:
Based at our Community Hub in Weoley Castle (B29 5TE)

This is a flexible role with hours to suit you. Ideally you can offer at least 3 hours per week.
