Job Introduction
Our 14 household waste recycling centres accept around 85,000 tonnes of waste per year and accept 42 types of material.

The recycling centres are visited approximately 1.6 million times a year by residents.

You will play a key role in helping us maintain the best service for residents, be sustainable and provide good value for money.

Main Responsibilities
As a Senior Recycling Officer you will be:

- helping the public use the site in a safe manner, adhering to all health and safety guidance.
- providing friendly, informative and professional customer service.
- protecting yourself and your team by promoting high standards of health and safety.
- safe when operating equipment and machinery and reporting any faults and issues.
- working with commercial traders, providing advice and handling payments.
- reporting unauthorised waste depositing and promoting environmental sustainability.
- supporting other Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) teams as part of the Staffordshire HWRC Network..

You will:

- be able to effectively lead and motivate a team to help maximise the quality and number of materials separated for recycling.
- plan and organise the activities on site, organise staff responsibilities and be the face of Staffordshire County Council to on site visitors and, where required, deputise for the Area Supervisor.
- be a great communicator and be able to demonstrate a positive and encouraging leadership approach.
- have experience using IT systems and be confident using Microsoft office software.
- ideally(but not essential) hold a Certificate of Technical Competence (CTC) in Hazardous Waste Transfer..
- have experience in the operation of Household waste recycling centres (HWRC'S).
- have working knowledge of health and safety legislation and operations.
- have a flexible approach to duties, willing to learn and be trained.
- have good verbal and written communication skills - to facilitate inductions,. training and communication with site staff, management, clients, contractors and the public.
- have strong numerical and literacy skills and paperwork and recording skills.
- be a trained First Aider, or willing and capable of being trained.
- hold a Full UK driving licence.
- have experience in operating a above 10 ton 360 wheeled excavator. ( or willing to learn).
