York, United Kingdom York Minster (Chapter of York) Full time

**For more information and to apply, please visit the York Minster website.**

It takes a multidisciplinary team of skilled heritage craftspeople and experts in their field to maintain and care for the ongoing cycle of repair, restoration, conservation and development of York Minster, its ancient buildings, and monuments. Our Stoneyard houses the complete range of craft and trade skills that are vital to achieve this.

Recently, the York Minster Fund have been investing in new facilities and technology to support the essential work of caring for the Minster, responding to innovations and modern processes such as digital technology, 3D scanning, Computer Aided Design (CAD), 3D printing and stone cutting technology. In partnership with overseas cathedrals such as Trondheim, Cologne, and Milan you will have an opportunity to spend time with other cathedrals to learn. This is an incredibly exciting time for the Stoneyard and if successful, you will be part of an ambitious vision that will present huge opportunities.

The apprenticeship includes a programme of part-time study at York College. Apprentices in recent years have taken up the opportunity to complete the Cathedral’s Workshop Fellowship, towards the end of the apprenticeship, with all associated costs met by the Minster.

This new apprenticeship is kindly supported by the Worshipful Company of Constructors Charitable Trust, the charitable arm of this modern City of London Livery Company for professionals working in the construction industry. Their generous donation is part of the Company’s ongoing charitable work in the industry.

As part of this, the role will involve from time to time some promotional activity and some engagement with the Company and Trust. This would be light touch and would help our ongoing work to promote heritage skills careers and the work of our new Centre of Excellence. Example activities would include a photo of the postholder to be used in social media posts from time to time or an article on our website/the Company and the Trust’s newsletter. We would also welcome the opportunity for the postholder to meet with the Trust and wider Company from time to time to update them on their work, which would be supported at all times by colleagues within the Minster. This would include our fundraising colleagues and the management team of the Stoneyard. Many members of our workforce have appeared in our publicity to date which has helped to raise the profile of careers within the Minster.

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic individual with a passion for developing masonry skills and the ability to contribute to the care of one of the great cathedrals of the world. The apprenticeship and college course begin in September.
