**Title**: Underwriting Assistant

**Reports to**: Underwriting Team Leader

**Location**: Northallerton Office - DL7 9LN - Hybrid 2 days a week in the office

**Role Summary**
- To provide underwriting and operational support to the Underwriting team. To provide a professional and comprehensive underwriting and administration service within the business.

**Responsibilities**:
**Underwriting**
- Liaise with brokers daily, answering incoming telephone calls and chasing brokers for any additional data required
- Assist the Underwriters/Capacity with the due diligence and underwriting process on individual referral submissions by classifying the risk; collecting additional underwriting information and in time, producing endorsements and issuing documentation.
- Develop, negotiate and support the underwriting of new business/renewals within own authority and in line with the strategy
- Control and underwrite new business and renewal books within the authority and in line with the strategy
- Process risks and endorsements as required
- Assist with product development on our online system. Identifying additional distribution opportunities.
- Assist with monitoring of renewals and accounts queries.

**Underwriting support**
- Support with Policy Issuance
- Interact with the underwriting support functions (e.g. Finance, Compliance, Broker
- Relations) to assist with business and policy management
- Support on initiatives/projects
- Prepare and provide statistics and information as needed to serve the requirements of the Underwriting team and Produce ad hoc reports for the Underwriters and other members of staff when requested

**Compliance**
- Establish and maintain knowledge of internal controls and all procedures relating to underwriting.

**Requirements**:

- Previous underwriting experience
- Commercial Insurance Awareness

**Skills & Abilities**
- Ability to manage own time, meet deadlines and prioritise work
- Attention to detail, numerate and accurate
- Able to communicate effectively with others
- Organised and methodical approach to work and problem-solving
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Outcome-focused, self-motivated, enthusiastic
- Team worker with the ability to work on their own initiative
