Edinburgh, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

**Senior Clinical Psychologist & Team Co-ordinator Band 8b (1.0 wte fixed term, 24 months - under review)**

**Edinburgh OPMH Inpatient Psychology Team**

The Lothian Older People's Psychology Service (LOPPS) provides a highly specialist clinical psychology service across the NHS Lothian area to adults predominantly aged 65 and over and includes those of any age with a diagnosis of dementia.

There has been recent initial investment in a new Older People’s Mental Health Inpatient Psychology Team covering the Edinburgh City OPMH wards. We are delighted to advertise this new post currently available at 1.0wte fixed term for 2 years.

We are seeking a highly motivated, organised, team focused psychologist with significant experience and interest in working with older people across a range of mental health and dementia care settings and presentations to lead, co-ordinate and manage this new inpatient team.

The Edinburgh OPMH Inpatient Psychology Team will cover 6 specified mental health and dementia wards, currently based across 3 sites in Edinburgh. You will have responsibility for supervision and line management of the inpatient psychology team staff, operational management and development of this service alongside cover of one inpatient ward. The team includes 2.5wte Band 8a Clinical Psychology dedicated to 5 mental health, dementia assessment and HBCCC wards and 2.0wte Psychology Assistants. It would be expected that the team will support training placements on the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology.

This post has specific remit for psychology input to Harlaw Ward and will have job planned time equivalent to 0.5wte for clinical input and support to this ward. Harlaw Ward is the mental health assessment ward for males within Edinburgh city and is based within the Royal Edinburgh Building at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital Site. The patient group on Eden Ward presents with acute distress across a range of severe and/or complex mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders and psychosis.

Training, quality improvement, service development and audit will also be key components of the inpatient team. The team lead will be expected to lead on the development, delivery and evaluation of training and workforce/skills development programmes in collaboration with both multidisciplinary colleagues and management and the wider LOPPS team training programmes to support the dementia, mental health and trauma informed care. This post will also be responsible for the systematic evaluation of the impact of psychology across these wards to support a business continuation case. The post holder will have delegated representation to key management forums in OPMH services on behalf of the inpatient psychology team and in consultation with the Professional Lead for Older Adult Psychology.

The job plan for this post is equally split between service management/development time (0.5wte) and direct clinical to a ward (0.5wte). We are open to considering flexible working hour arrangements but wish to highlight that the job plan for this post is not suitable for part time hours or job share.

You must have an Honours Degree in Psychology and a Post Graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and be registered with HCPC as Applied Psychologist or be eligible for registration. Please also refer to the Job Description and Person Specification for further details.
