We currently have an opportunity for a Crematorium Operative to join our team.

Working as part of a small team, you’ll provide a courteous, efficient, effective and dignified service to all clients. This will include all aspects of the operation of the Crematorium.

Key responsibilities;
- Prepare the service hall and associated areas for services and ensure they are carried out in accordance with the agreed arrangements
- Attend services, provide direction and guidance to funeral directors, clergy/officiants and the bereaved before, during and after services
- Carry out the cremation of human remains in accordance with statutory requirements, operating appropriate equipment in line with set guidelines
- Ensure the collection, identification, storage and final disposal the cremated remains in the grounds is undertaken and documented appropriately
- Open and close the grounds and buildings, out of hours on a rota basis at the appropriate times. Ensure the Book of Remembrance is turned daily as appropriate
- Undertake basic care, cleaning and maintenance of buildings, grounds and ancillary equipment
- Undertake general cleaning and preparation of all areas of the Crematorium
- Liaise with and assist funeral directors, clergy/officiants, the bereaved and members of the public and provide the highest possible standards of service
- Be proactive in community activities to promote Southern Co-op
- Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the Crematorium operation and associated office functions as required

Key Experience, Knowledge and Skills;
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of the bereaved in a sympathetic, compassionate and understanding manner
- Good communication skills with a confident and professional manner
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment in accordance with set guidelines
- Physically able and aware of manual handling techniques
- Computer literate with basic administration and keyboard skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and without direct supervision or immediate support
- Ability to build/promote links within the local community
