**Job summary**:
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Audiology Centre (QEHAC) is excited to announce a rare and exciting opportunity to join our team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with an interest in working with patients with hearing loss in a new role as an Audiology Assistant.

Within this role you will be developed to become an integral member of the clinical and administrative team working alongside our clinicians helping to provide face to face and remote support to patients with hearing aids and surgically implantable hearing devices. The role also includes a range of administrative duties to support the aftercare of patients with hearing devices and the management of our hearing aid and hearing implant stock.

Audiology Assistant in-house training will be given and all work will be carried out under the guidance of a qualified Audiologist or member of the administration team.

Excellent communication skills are needed when working with people with hearing loss, along with good manual skills for dealing with hearing aids and implants.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
1 Undertake routine hearing aid and hearing implant repairs.

2 Provide advice to patients/carers on the use and correct fitting of hearing aids, including care and maintenance.

3 Explain to patients/carers how equipment works and assist with trouble shooting.

4 Assist in the provision of Hearing Implant repairs by dispatching replacement speech processors to patients, downloading programmes into sound processors, returning broken equipment and fault reports to cochlear implant manufacturers. Monitoring the return of repaired/loan equipment by maintaining adequate records.

5 Provide clerical and administrative support by managing stock of hearing implant systems using the Auditbase stock module and online systems of the cochlear implant manufacturers.

6 Assist in the preparation of issuing of sound processors including charging of batteries and preparation of kits prior to appointments

7 Provide reception area duties when required, monitoring patient arrivals, dealing with enquiries and providing an effective response to enquiries on spares/repairs by telephone and on a one-to-one basis.

8 Establish a good rapport with patients, demonstrating good deaf awareness skills, and good communication.

9 Ensure journal entries/patient records are completed according to local guidelines.

- GCSE Maths, English (Grade 4 and above/Grade C or above) or equivalent
- NVQ in Care/Business Administration or Experience of working in the NHS in a patient/public facing role in health / care or hospitality & catering

**Experience**:
