**Job description**:
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to make a difference to the future of transport understanding wider government objectives and priorities that determine one of the country’s biggest assets, the strategic road network.

The team is responsible for leading the ongoing development of the third Road Investment Strategy (RIS 3), where the Government sets out its plans for investment in the strategic road network (motorways and some A-roads) in England. We have an opportunity for a project management professional to lead the PMO function in the Department for Transport’s strategic roads team to develop the third road investment strategy.

Leading the PMO for RIS3, you will oversee the team's workplan, manage and report on strategic programme risks, KPIs and coordinating reporting. This role is critical to the success of the team and the programme, managing and planning multiple complex and interdependent workstreams across delivery and policy, working closely with National Highways, the Office of Rail and Road and Transport Focus.

**_ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:_**
- Leading the project management office for the RIS3 project. Line management of a small team in an inclusive way.
- Ensuring that the programme is robustly governed across the partner organisations.
- Managing strategic programme risks and KPIs and coordinating reporting.
- Managing the monthly governance meetings across the four partner organisations.
- Continuing to develop project management capability in the RIS3 team and wider division.

**Person specification**:
**About you**

To thrive in this role, you will have previous experience working on complex programmes/projects in a programme/project management office. You have the ability to lead and work in a fast-paced environment, whilst producing high quality work to tight time scales. You have experience of working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to meet delivery deadlines and can express themselves in a confident and concise manner with colleagues at all levels.

**Additional information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

**Qualifications**:

- You must hold a project management qualification, such as APM PMQ, Prince 2 or equivalent.**Behaviours**:
