Birmingham, United Kingdom ASSYSTEM Full time

**Company Description**
The UK government has made a pledge to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 and, as such, is pushing ahead with significant investment in nuclear and renewable energies.

Assystem, as a leading provider of project management, design & construction supervision services within the nuclear industry, has aligned its own strategy to support this switch to low-carbon energy, whilst also recognising transport and infrastructure systems to be a major factor in influencing the outcome of government policy.

By acquiring Schofield Lothian in 2021, Assystem reaffirmed their commitment to the UK’s energy transition in combining strengths with a long-established provider of consultancy services to the transport and infrastructure sectors, through the delivery of sustainable performance improvements within four practice areas: Consents & Engagement; Commercial Management; Project Management; and Environment & Sustainability.

Based on these solid foundations, our Environmental team continues to build on its existing capability and has ambitious plans to develop its reach within both the transport & infrastructure sectors and through the additional opportunities offered via the Assystem network within the nuclear sector.

Our objectives will ultimately be defined by our ability to attract and retain those talented individuals that share our vision and wish to join us in shaping the future.
**Job Description** Role Summary**:
Join the Assystem Environment team as a Hydrogeologist as part of our growing water services offering.

Initial role would be based within the Water Team on HS2, managing the development in water resource / groundwater on the delivery of HS2, the high-speed railway project. The role will support the Delivery and Construction Teams in the production and assurance of technical documents in the support of the water consents (Sch33P5 / CRT 10.5 and 12.2 / EPR).

As hydrogeologist, you will interpret technical data and information from maps, borehole logs and historical documents to advise on groundwater levels, flows and quality and subsequently advise on risks which works might pose on these assets.

These plans should ensure the data illustrated is robust and in line with consent granter requirements (i.e. based on suitable borehole locations and readings from across a number of years).

You will work closely with a number of internal and external teams, with a key responsibility being to build a relationship with key stakeholders such as the EA.

**Duties**:

- Utilise information, technical reports, designs, BIM and GIS data to programme consents and ensure approval of works prior to commencement of activities.
- understand and interpret maps, geographical data, historical evidence and models to understand known and potential risk from the project on various elements of groundwater.
- Discuss findings with consents granters in an informed manner which builds their confidence in our works.
- Provide feedback to the Sublot Planning Manager on future Consents requirements so these can be incorporated into the programme.
- Undertake site visits for investigative and monitoring purposes.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keep up to date with technological and legislative developments.
- Write reports for clients, which can be understood by people who don't necessarily have a technical background.
- Provide feedback to Sublot delivery team from engagements with CBG’s (via the Core Delivery Team) and co-ordinate the required delivery dates for supporting technical documentation.
- Be fully aware of the critical path and assist in ensuring that all activities and decisions are prioritised based on the need to minimise risk.
- Understanding of relevant environmental legislation.

**Desirable**:

- Good understanding of conceptual site models and contaminant interaction / implications on contaminant transport / migration through a hydrogeological regime.
- A keen understanding of interpreting water quality results as well as advising on subsequent treatment needs prior to discharging to ground / surface water.
- Track record of working in construction or on large infrastructure projects.
- Marketing skills / willing to contact potential clients.
- Tender preparation experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Be registered / have membership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM / EIS), along with CEnv.
