**Role Purpose**:
Working on behalf of the Force and in liaison with staff within the HM Coroner’s Office, the Coroners Officer will undertake duties in connection with the investigation of sudden or suspicious deaths with particular focus on deaths in custody and of detained persons. The role particularly involves duties relating to deaths in prison settings.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Administrative tasks associated with the receipt of notifications of deaths to HM Coroner.
- Deal with Initial enquiries.
- Facilitate arrangements for post-mortems and inquests as directed by HM Coroner.
- Administrative tasks stemming from liaison with various agencies associated with deceased persons e.g., Police, Prison Authorities, the Prison and Probation Ombudsman, the Registrar, and GPs etc.

**Skills and experience**:

- Experience of working in an investigative or medical capacity.
- Must have a sympathetic and compassionate nature and have the ability to deal with sensitive and difficult situations.
- Able to work long hours at short notice
