The Integrated Acute Therapy Teams provide services to the Emergency department (ED), Acute Assessment unit (AAU),Medical, Orthopaedic, Respiratory and surgical on the Airedale General Hospital site. The teams consist of Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists and Generic therapy assistants. The Service’s core hours are weekdays between 8.30 and 4.30 with some therapy teams also work weekends on a rota basis.

The assistance practitioner will work closely with the FEP team to support the emergency department to assess, plan and implement a range of therapeutic activities and treatments to improve functional ability, mood and the well-being of patients and to facilitate a safe and timely discharge from hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for activities delegated to them and will work without direct supervision but will have immediate access to a clinician for advice and direction as required.

Assistance practitioners in the ED / FEP therapy teams work predominantly in the Emergency Department (ED), Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) but also undertake some community outreach/follow-up in the Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven localities.

Assistants are expected to continually improve their knowledge and skills and develop collaborative working relationships with therapy colleagues to enhance patient care. Duties are varied and include direct patient contact, clerical and housekeeping tasks.
