**Overview**

We are seeking a part time Medical Receptionist to join our busy, friendly and experienced reception team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional and hardworking individual who demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills. Previous experience in a GP setting and in using a clinical system (e.g. TPP/EMIS) would be advantageous.

**Salary**: £11.06 per hour

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

**Main duties of the job**

Working alongside a skilled, dedicated and supportive reception team, you will provide a comprehensive and efficient service to the practice population. You will receive, assist and direct patients in accessing appropriate services or healthcare professionals in a courteous and welcoming manner, demonstrating the principles of effective active signposting.

**About us**

Ashbourne Medical Practice is a large teaching and dispensing practice serving a population of 10,200 patients from a modern, purpose built premises in the centre of Ashbourne. We are a highly respected practice who embraces the collaborative agenda and has a successful track record of delivering excellent primary care. We work collaboratively with three other practices as part of the South Dales Primary Care Network.

**Main duties and responsibilities**:

- To assist the doctors and other clinicians in the provision of a high-quality service
- Receiving and directing patients on arrival in a courteous and efficient manner
- Answer incoming telephone switchboard quickly and efficiently, ensuring calls are redirected appropriately
- Make, amend and cancel appointments, in line with practice procedures, directing patients in line with active signposting principles
- To have a working knowledge of service provisions offered by external providers such mental health, sexual health, phlebotomy etc
- Respond to and/or redirect all patient requests accordingly
- To capture and disseminate accurate information to patients, practice staff and external organisations, demonstrating varied communication techniques
- To support the management of home visit requests, liaising with clinicians to assign requests appropriately
- Greet new patients and explain the running of the practice and procedures to them
- Booking clinic specific procedures such as vaccinations, cryotherapy / minor surgery, LARC etc and maintaining accurate records of actions taken
- Provide administrative support to patients and practice staff, ensuring that appropriate practice records are kept up to date
- Process incoming correspondence, distributing in accordance with the clinical workflow policy, and contact as required relevant parties regarding misdirected correspondence and results
- Process and assign eConsult reports received daily in line with guidance
- To be responsible for processing and, where appropriate, producing all medical report requests from patients, healthcare organisations, solicitors, insurance companies, DVLA or other external agencies, ensuring adherence to confidentiality, consent and data security
- To produce and forward accurate invoices to patients and external agencies requesting private medical reports / services
- To process online services registrations and online record access requests in line with the online services policy
- Initiate contact with patients, team members and external organisations to follow up on medical appointments and enquiries
- To maintain stationery stock levels, liaising with Reception and Patient Services Manager to place orders in adherence with practice budgets
- Compile patient information literature, forms and registration packs ensuring sufficient availability at all times
- To work as a positive and active member within the practice team
- To provide sickness and holiday cover as required
- Undertake additional duties as may reasonably be required by the GPs or practice management team
- To attend QUEST / staff training events
- To actively participate in annual appraisals
- To work safely at all times in accordance with legislative requirements and practice policies and procedures
- To be actively involved in maintaining the health and safety requirements and checks of the reception and waiting area

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: £11.06 per hour

Expected hours: 25.5 per week
