Lecturer in Policing

**Lecturer in Policing (2 year Fixed Term Contract)**

**Based at Francis Close Hall Campus, Cheltenham**

**1.0 FTE 37 hours per week**

This posts teaches on our undergraduate programme in Professional Policing (licenced by the College of Policing) and cognates undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Criminology. The post-holder will be an engaging lecturer who can draw on recent operational policing knowledge and experience as a police officer, special constable or PCSO to deliver excellent applied learning experiences for our students.

The post-holder will share our student-centred ethos, be ready to offer a high standard of student support and be keen to make a positive contribution to the student experience including graduate outcomes.

**About the course and our approach**

The BSc Professional Policing degree at the University of Gloucestershire is licenced by the College of Policing and was the first pre-join degree approved by the College in the Southwest region.

Graduate outcomes and widening participation are key foci of our development plans. Skills for employability are embedded across our curriculum, preparing students to reach their potential and progress into fulfilling graduate careers, as well as developing as informed and socially conscious citizens able to effect positive change. We also engage in a busy programme of outreach involving campus taster days and guest sessions within schools and colleges across our region.

Our new colleague should share our commitment to employability and to widening participation and be willing to devote time and energy to these activities, as well as contribute to recruitment events such as open days.

Recent years have seen the development of a supportive and creative research environment, resulting in a successful submission to REF2021 under UoA21. Member of the course teams have had increasing success in securing grant or consultancy funding, and in generating research impact by engaging with external stakeholders. We have a growing community of postgraduate research students, and a key strand of our research development strategy has been the support of our cohort of early career staff who benefit from an ECR network offering training, mentoring and networking opportunities.

**About the role**

**Main duties of the role will include**:
Acting as Personal Tutor for students

Contribute to student recruitment and outreach activities, course and curriculum development and course administration

Engage with external stakeholders to create opportunities for student development and employability

Engage in research activities leading to publication and impact, appropriate to academic career stage/experience.
